What’s in a (Business) Name?

We all know that a business name is important, but there’s a lot more that goes into choosing a strong business name than you may think. Of course, using a name that has meaning and conveys a benefit is important, but what about planning for the future? Small business owners should not only look at the near-term use of their business name, but plan for the future by checking to see if the name has already been trademarked or if the '.com' address has already been claimed. This not only allows room for growth, but prevents costly adjustments from being made down the road.

By following these seven steps compiled by Entrepreneur.com, you can create a winning business name and create a strong presence in the market you compete in. Read the full article by Entrepreneur.com here.

Also, a great way (one that I personally have seen used many times) to name a business is to use a poll. If you're on a social media site such as Facebook, there is an option that allows for a poll to be posted on your wall for all of your friends to give their input on. If you have names for your business already thought out and you just cannot decide -- create a poll that allows friends to vote. This will give you a rough estimate of what people like and how they are thinking.
